‘Exploding Mountains’, Chinese European Art Centre, Xiamen, China, Saturday 10th January – Friday 23rd January 2015

Josie chinese exhibition

As a culmination of her three month residency with the Chinese European Art Centre in Xiamen, Josie Jenkins will be exhibiting work that she has made during the residency in an exhibition titled ‘Exploding Mountains’, from 10th to 23rd January 2015. More information is below. For those of you who are too far away to visit the exhibition, you will be able to see photographs and news on Josie’s A-N blog after the opening https://www.a-n.co.uk/blogs/skygroundbeing .

In China, Jenkins has turned her focus towards the visible consequence of heavy industry, as well as exploring her overall perspective on the Chinese landscape and the way it is shaped by people. During her residency with CEAC, Jenkins visited the Yangshan Deep Water Port in Shanghai, the largest container port in the world, and imagery from this research trip features prominently in her new body of work. The landscape speaks of the people who occupy it and, in Jenkins’ paintings, people are notable by their absence.
