Window Space at Arena hosts a site-specific installation from emerging sculptor and installation artist, Stephanie Miello.
PV 5.00 – 6.00pm Join us for drinks upstairs at Arena Studios before stepping outside to view the new work at Arena Window Space. Access to Arena is through Baltic Social Café and via the lift where an Arena member will show you up.
Working within the constraints of the Window Space and in response to the 2017 LightNight theme of ‘Time’, Miello says, “The chosen materials will manipulate and be dependent on each other, using light to create shadows that will continue to change. This will also be orchestrated from the natural light to create shadows that will continue to change throughout the different times of day. Time becomes the main aspect to the installation and how the visual space can change from one scene to another.”
In contrast to previous LightNight events at Arena, this year’s event makes use of Arena’s window which looks on to busy Parliament Street. Visitors are invited to view Miello’s installation by looking up at the first floor window directly above the entrance to the Elevator Building.
Arena Studios is a charity providing affordable studio space to artists and delivers a dynamic programme of events and exhibitions throughout the year.
This event is part of the eighth annual LightNight Liverpool, the free one-night arts festival, which will take place on Friday 19 May 2017.
Visitors of all ages can join in with everything from large-scale light projections and live music to hands-on workshops, dancing, arts and crafts, spoken word, street performance, theatre, late-opening exhibitions and walking tours.
This year’s festival will feature over 100 free events, all exploring the theme of ‘Time’: the past, present and future of the city, it’s people and the world we live in, as well as the influence of time on scientific discovery.
LightNight Liverpool is produced by local social enterprise Open Culture. Printed festival guides can be purchased from selected venues across the city centre (from early April), or pre-ordered online at www.lightnightliverpool.co.uk.
Light Night Liverpool is on Friday 19th May and ‘from one to another’ is on view from 5pm – 11.00pm.
