Arena presents Exquisite Cadaver for Light Night!
Arena opens its doors again for a fun participatory event for all the family. Come and pay homage to the Surrealists by creating your very own Exquisite Cadaver. You may know it as ‘Exquisite Corpse’ or the parlor game ‘Picture Consequences’. In this technique, which was famously adopted by the Surrealists, many people build a picture together, with individual sections concealed until the end, resulting in a fun and often rather strange ensemble!
The name ‘Exquisite Cadaver’ is derived from a phrase that resulted when Surrealists first played the game, “Le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau.” – “The exquisite corpse shall drink the new wine.” André Breton writes that the game started as fun but became playful and enriching for him his fellow artists Yves Tanguy, Marcel Duchamp, Jacques Prévert, Benjamin Péret and Pierre Reverdy, You can expect no less from your visit to Arena this Light Night!
Join the Arena Artists in trying your hand at the traditional parlor game, or take part in our huge Exquisite Cadaver Mural and if none of that takes your fancy, just come for a cuppa and piece of cake!
Light Night Liverpool is on Friday 15th May and Arena is open 4pm – 9pm.
