About Lucy WIlson
By reviving traditional aspects of image making, symbolism within nature forms the soul of my work. With dramatic use of symmetry it is adaptable and encourages the eye to question not just to look. Practicing a contemporary Illustrative style, my work still grasps the nostalgia in traditional painting. The work is applied to bookbinding, gallery space, private commissions, wallpaper design, merchandise, stationary and original pieces. I also have work featured in the Ghost’s of Gone Birds traveling exhibition, a conservation project. I strongly believe in one of many theories of the artist and critic of the pre Raphaelite period, John Ruskin; who believed that to draw nature correctly you must understand, love and respect the subject for the subject to be drawn in it’s bare and true form.
